It’s our one-year anniversary! I can’t believe it’s been a year since I experienced the second most wonderful day of my life (my first were the days our sons were born). Naturally we had to celebrate it in a way that is unique to us – at a music festival in Philadelphia.
Our original plans were to go on a romantic island getaway but being the non-traditionalist that we are, we decided to fly up to Philadelphia for The Roots Music Festival. Janelle Monae! Snoop Dogg! Dougie Fresh! Biz Markie! It was literally all the people we love as musicians backed by the world’s last real band – The Roots! We had a fantastic time. For 3 days, we barhopped, walked around historic Philly (nerd alert!) and ate our way through the city. The city itself was so amazing that we want to go back and take the kids with us.
Our actual anniversary was a little bit more mellow. We lounged around the house, went to the movies, ate, shopped and just spent time together. We aren’t big showy people so we preferred to do the low-key thing and spend the day with each other. I actually wasn’t feeling too well due to my pregnancy and all the fun we had Philly, that we picked dinner and wrapped up our day at home. We couldn’t end our day without cutting the top tier of our wedding cake, which still tasted as good as it did on our wedding day.
It has been amazing, eye-opening year but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I not only love my husband, I respect him, which says so much more about the person that he is. I will end this post with a letter to him:
Ken,
One year later and here we are. Despite the fact that you leave your shoes all over the house and sink full of dirty dishes, I wouldn’t trade you for the world. You are one of the most honest, patient and intelligent men I know. Your commitment to our family and our relationship says more about you and your character than words ever can. I love that you make me laugh, you listen attentively to all of the ridiculous things I talk about, you rub my feet without me asking, and you know just when to hold me. I couldn’t have asked for a better friend, husband and love of my life. Who would have thought that that day I saw you eating by yourself and introduced myself that I would be your wife? I knew! Haha! Here’s to one year and lifetime more to go…
Love,
Monique
